The Homestead exemption is a direct reduction of your assessed value on your primary residence.  Once you file it, it will be reduced every subsequent year.  The form can be downloaded from here . FAQ's can be found here.

A Veteran's exemption is for someone who served during a recognized war period and is 62 years or older; or, is receiving 100% disability as a Veteran; or, became 100% disabled while serving, is eligible for $6,000. The form can be downloaded from here .
